Our History
Our History
Founded in 1987 by Steve Henderson, United Scrap Metal Traders (USMT) arose in response to the growing demand for a more service-oriented approach within the scrap metal industry. Drawing upon his background at a prominent Brisbane-based scrap metal company, Steve recognized the potential to establish a business rooted in the principles of exceptional customer service and unwavering honesty.
Steve's scrap industry journey began in 1973 when, on his 16th birthday, he started as a laborer at Simsmetal Ltd. Over 14 years, he advanced through the company's ranks, holding pivotal positions.
As time passed, Brad Chisholm and Steve Henderson jointly launched USMT's first scrap receiving depot on Murarrie Road. Initially modest, it soon expanded, culminating in a milestone when USMT secured a significant property on Lytton Road through a 15-year lease.
Located strategically in Murarrie, a central Brisbane suburb, USMT benefits from proximity to key transport infrastructure. Over 21 years at this location, a diverse customer base, including both commercial and domestic clients, was established.
Today, with over three decades of collective experience in scrap metal processing, Steve Henderson and Brad Chisholm have guided the business's significant evolution, delving into international metal trading. USMT is now recognized as an international Metal Trading Company, with a primary focus on processing and trading scrap metal.
